Printers are similar to many other office machines such as photo copiers and fax machines. They have mechanical working parts and need to be serviced and repaired from time to time. User manuals are often inadequate and service manuals are not readily available, and often require translating into practical solutions anyway.
There are a number of problems with printers that require training and expertise to diagnose and repair, however there are also many problems that could be solved by an interested user given the information and instruction on how to solve the problem.
